Phenol Peel
A phenol peel is the strongest of the chemical peels. It is recommended for deep wrinkles usually around the mouth and chin area. You can treat the full face but it would require twilight sedation and can take 1-2 hours to perform. A small area like the upper lip lines can be done in the office. You may experience discomfort and puffiness after the peel which can be controlled by medication. A few days after the treatment the skin will look like you had a sunburn, but this will fade to pink over time. An individual can hold this pinkness for 3-4 months. It can be covered with makeup after the first week. The skin will remain sensitive. You should avoid sun exposure after medium to deep peels and always use sunscreen. Most people will wait until the fall and winter months to have this treatment.
