Kybella | What is it and How Does it Work?

The Double Chin Eraser

Don’t want to go under the knife but have done everything to get rid of that double chin? You see it every time you look at your profile in the mirror, in every photo with your loved ones, but surgery just isn’t in the cards for you right now. When chin exercises and diet only do so much there has to be another option other than surgery. Well, let us introduce Kybella. Kybella is the perfect alternative to surgery and completely customized to each patient’s aesthetic goals.

Perfect, sign me up! But, wait. What exactly is it?

Kybella is, most importantly, the first FDA approved injectable drug to treat submental fullness. What it does is contours and improve the appearance of submental fullness. Submental fullness is extra weight or skin beneath your chin. Really, submental fullness is the specific term for what we refer to more commonly as “double chin”. Not only can this be caused by weight gain, but it can also be caused by genetics and aging which are two things you can’t control. But you can control the appearance of it, and that is by using Kybella. Once Kybella is injected into the fat, it causes a destruction of the adipocytes, or fat cells, which eventually rids you of the double chin. The way that Kybella works is through the active ingredient of deoxycholic acid which aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat through a naturally occurring molecule in the body.

Sounds great, when will I see results?

The consultation is key, as is with any procedure. Dr. Sabini and his team will need to fully understand your goals aesthetically. It can take anywhere from two to six sessions to reach that desired look, but we will be sure that you achieve it! The best part about Kybella is that it permanently removes the fat cells and does not “wear off”.

I’m ready to schedule my consultation! One last question, what is the recovery like?

With Kybella, you will have a mild recovery period. Of course, you will not be out of work or limited to most every day activities. You may experience swelling at the injection site, bruising, discomfort, redness and numbness. This is all temporary and varies from person to person, the side effects can last one to two weeks and are typically minor.
